The City of Grain Valley has experienced exponential growth and continues to be one of the fastest growing cities in Missouri. The Grain Valley Police Department has shared an office building with various city departments since its assembly in 2001. Due to the police staff doubling in size, voters have given approval for the construction of a new headquarters
As the Grain Valley population continues to grow, the recruitment and retention of police officers, enhancing morale and performance, and delivering a public safety facility the community can be proud of are all paramount to the city’s success. The city leaders acknowledged the need to expand or replace the municipal building. After experiencing a tough loss at the polls in 2018, the city’s persistence paid off as the community rallied to pass the bond in 2022. McCownGordon has been by the city’s side since 2019, and our collaboration with Hoefer Welker played a key role in the success of this bond to build a new headquarters facility.
Built For Future Expansion
The upgraded 21,000 SF police headquarters includes secure holding cells, improved records storage and evidence processing areas, fitness center, locker rooms, quiet rooms, conference rooms, a community room open for public use, and sufficient open office space for staff. The building features an inviting entrance for the public with an abundance of natural light. Secure areas are positioned behind a bullet restraint wall panel and glass, providing additional protection and safety.
Maintaining City’s Budget
Maintaining the City of Grain Valley’s budget was a challenge on this project. As a solution, McCownGordon positively impacted this project through extensive value engineering efforts to ensure the city maximized their investment. In collaboration with Hoefer Welker, we provided several cost options and bid out $450,000 worth of alternates. We pride ourselves on being good stewards of taxpayer dollars. Upon completion, the Grain Valley Police Headquarters will accommodate more people with their enhanced services and ensure a safe atmosphere for the entire community.
