The new Blue River East Campus addition will be home to four degree programs including lineman technician, certified driver’s license (CDL), forklift and OSHA training. The new facility will include classrooms, vehicle high bay located in a pre-engineered metal building with an adjacent pole field, where students learn how to set up and repair electrical wire communication and power lines. MCC’s Great Plains OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) Education Center offers technical courses on hazards, occupational safety and environmental compliance for several industries, including construction, health care, manufacturing and hospitality.
New Building commissioning was selected for this addition to the multi-site community college. The building itself posed new facility features the college was not used to or trained in (like VRF systems and passive cooling within the large vehicle bay area). The commissioning services provided validated the design of the passive cooling system that encompassed a series of automated ground level and cross ventilated roof level sash windows in conjunction with HVLS fans. This system was integrated into the buildings automation and reacted when temperatures exceeded a user provided threshold or in the case of inclement weather and vehicles were used inside operated to mitigate CO2 levels for increased fresh air. Through the commissioning process we were able to verify the operation and dial in the correct temperature setpoints to provide optimal comfort.
